Better Than the Naked Palette??? Say What?!

20120926-233750.jpg
Okay so I’m not saying that all of these shadows are better than all of the shadows in the Naked and Naked2 palettes, but lets take a step back and think about it. What’s the thought behind the Naked palette? It is supposed to be a selection of neutral shadows to give that fresh “naked” look. Well they are beautiful and I love them all but most of them are not exactly neutrals. I didn’t even think about it that way until I received the fabulous “Butt Naked Eyes” palette from NYX! This is quite simply everything you need for an everyday look. There’s a little bit of sparkle, a little bit of jazz, but most are mixer friendly soft and sweet neutrals.

And the pies de resistance! Open up the little drawer under the eyeshadows and viola! Four blushes, two highlighters, and a matte bronzer! Hooray for hidden drawers!

The textures of all these products are fantastic, totally on par with urban decay, actually I have less trouble with fall out with the NYX shadows.

Overall I’m absolutely in love with this set. For $35 ( I got mine for $19 on hautelook.com ) you get mega bang for your buck! This is a must have in collections big or small.

Okay so I have had this for almost a year and I am just getting around to playing with it. It had the unfortunate luck of being given to me as a gift along with the naked 2 palette and I’m sad to say it got pushed to the back of my collection and forgotten about. Rude, I know. Anyway, getting ready for school in the morning is becoming more time consuming the bigger my collection gets. Decisions, decisions…so in an effort to streamline on weekdays I try to work from one palette and one foundation for at least one week. Putting this one on the back burner was a big mistake. I think i could use this everyday for a month and still have ideas for looks. Its got neutrals, warm and cool, some jewel tones, and metallics. The only thing it’s missing is a black, matte or otherwise. The texture of the shadows are very nice and soft, the shimmers have a little fallout but nothing as bad as Chopper from Naked2. As far as the blushes go they are nice as well. The colors they chose to include are…interesting. There is a lovely rose pink, three sort of pinky toupee shades, a deep orange shimmery shade and a complimenting light orange shimmer ( I’m sure these would be nice on a darker skin tone but they look clownish on me ) then a light champagne and shimmery pink. The lip glosses alone in this set, I think, are worth the purchase price. ($30 at Target) most of the time if you get a palette the lip glosses are a throw away item. Ugh, remember getting those walmart make up sets for Xmas and the lip glosses would be super sticky and clumpy and none of the colors were flattering? Well these are sooo much better. It has me wondering if Pixie has a full size lipgloss with this same formulation. It goes on very smoothly and has a slightly minty scent/flavor. Huge selection of colors to flatter any look!

Overall, I’m very happy with the palette and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking a palette that’s going to give them a lot of product for the money. I hope you enjoy and leave me a comment if you would like to see a tutorial using this palette!

Almay Intense Smokey Eye Set

20120901-153555.jpg
While browsing the cosmetic area at Walmart I came upon a set from Almay that came with a smokey eye trio and a mascara, both of which I had never tried. I have to admit I am a sucker for a package deal so I picked the colors I liked and took it home! Only then did I realize they were, as most Almay eye products are, specialized by eye color and that I picked the ones for green eyes. Well I tried it anyway and I don’t think it is at all bad. The shadows were a bit dry but the color pay off was nice. I tried to use mostly drugstore products for the rest of the look and this is what I came up with. Enjoy!

Physician’s Formula Happy Booster Blush

So it’s been absolutely forever since I’ve written anything, obviously, but I’ve taken some time off school and I have had tons of time to think about new ideas. This lead to me being totally unable to pick where to start so I did NOTHING! Lol, anyway I was getting ready to go out today, putting on my face, and I realized how much I love Physician’s Formula Happy Booster blushes! So here’s what I know starting with basics!
Product Info : Ultra soft and blendable blushing powder features a fresh and vibrant mix of blushing tones infused with a pop of color to create a healthy glow. Multi reflective pearls provide a soft iridescence to highlight and add color to your cheeks. Infused with a happy booster blend, featuring happy skin and euphoryl, natural plant extracts which have been shown to promote a feeling of happiness by mimicking the effect of endorphins and helping protect the skin from environmental stress. Te sweet scent of violet provides a feeling of joy each time you apply.

My Opinion: The first thing I like to do when reviewing and testing a product is see if it lives up to the claims made on the package. I have four shades (and I think that’s all they have) Rosy, Pink, Natural, and Translucent. Swatches below the top is pink, then natural, then rosy, and lastly translucent. I did concentrated swatches so you could get a good sense of color. They come in a little compact with the little useless brush, although the colored bristles are sweet. I depotted two of them to put in my z palette and rosy got a little busted but that was my fault. Overall I think they are pretty standard blush colors, great staples for a collection. I have very fair skin and i haven’t had a problem carrying any of these off. They are very shimmery and unless you are going for a super duper sparkly look I wouldn’t use a highlighters with any of these, however….. Sometimes if i just want a gentle hint of color I’ll layer the translucent shade over a color in place of a highlighter. You can do this over any blush it makes a great sublet highlight giving you the promised glow. Also, the great part about the colors being broken up in these little hearts is that you can control the colors you wanna use. There is a small heart in each pan that has a bold pop of color that you can swirl in or swirl around. The texture is very silky, not unlike any powder I’ve tried from PF. They go on easy and are build able when needed. Can I just say I LOVE THE SMELL! I’m a little biased because that violet is one of my favorite scents but it is so pleasant. It smells great in the pan and it carries it unto your face. It’s light but lovely. So to sum it all up, I would say that I’m very happy with all of these and I would really recommend them to anyone looking for a new blush. Hope you try them and enjoy them and I love comments so let me know if there is anything you have a question about!
