Almay Intense Smokey Eye Set

While browsing the cosmetic area at Walmart I came upon a set from Almay that came with a smokey eye trio and a mascara, both of which I had never tried. I have to admit I am a sucker for a package deal so I picked the colors I liked and took it home! Only then did I realize they were, as most Almay eye products are, specialized by eye color and that I picked the ones for green eyes. Well I tried it anyway and I don’t think it is at all bad. The shadows were a bit dry but the color pay off was nice. I tried to use mostly drugstore products for the rest of the look and this is what I came up with. Enjoy!

I was getting a little bored with my everyday make up look so I decided to spice it up a bit. I love the Maybelline Tattoo gel cream eyeshadows and I have all the colors, although I have never used the blue, orange, or purple shades. So I thought if I blended the blue out with a nice taupe that it would still have the impact I wanted without being over the top. As an added bonus, all the products I used were from the drugstore except my brushes. I’m deeply in love with sigma brushes, but you can use whatever you have and it will be just fine.

I started with my Physician’s Formula foundation primer in the green shade to counteract my redness. Then I went with my Revlon color stay mineral foundation in the shade fair. To set that in place I used the color stay pressed powder in the shade fair. To fill in my brows I used the Maybelline define a brow pencil in light brown. When filling in your brows it’s really important to ice the right shade and this one is perfect for me. On the eyes I started with a base wash of the color tattoo cream in Tenacious Teal. I just applied it my finger to my lower lid being sure to stay below the crease. This cream gel product goes on smoothly and you have a little time to work with it before it sets for good. Over this in the same area, using a small shaded brush, I applied NYX’s eyeshadow single in the shade Ocean. This is a tealish blue but it has a golden shimmer in it that reads a little more neutral than just straight blue lids. We don’t want hooker eyes! In the crease area, with a dense fluffy brush I applied a light wash of another NYX single in true taupe. This shade actually leans more toward a tan brown for me but I chose it because it would play off the warmth of Ocean. Blend out all the harsh lines and always start applying at the outer corner so that it will have the most concentration of the darker color. Finally with a clean fluffy brush I used a basic champagne-ish color as a brow highlight, being sure to blend out the top of the taupe. On the cheeks I just used PF shimmer strips in Miami Strip, concentrating the darker shades under my cheekbones to contour. The lips are easy peasey, I just used NYX lip gloss in Baby Pink. Ta da, a blue eyeshadow look that anyone can pull off and it didnt break the bank. Thanks for reading and feel free to leave questions or comments!
